Offshoot and Tyrone Recreation Offer Cinderella Chronicles Drama Camp
|
6/8/09 Offshoot Productions, in conjunction with the Tyrone Recreation Department, is again planning a one-week theatre camp at the Roger Spencer Community Center. This year’s focus is The Cinderella Chronicles, a partially scripted and partially improvised play that provides humorous twists on the beloved fairy tale. Open to young actors aged 7 to 15, the camp meets from 1:00 to 4:15 p.m., on July 20 through July 24. Participants will learn important theatre techniques as they enjoy creating the characters--human, animal and fantastical--that populate Cinderella's life as told through her magical diary. With an emphasis on character development and ensemble performance, the camp is suitable both for those with theatre experience and for newcomers to the stage. After warm-ups and acting exercises, campers rehearse in age-based groups, coming together toward the end of each day for rehearsal. Campers should wear comfortable clothing and bring a light snack and beverage for a mid-afternoon break. Instructors include Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D. and Paige Steadman. Dr. Steadman, who has taught acting at universities, private schools, theatre companies, conferences, community theatres and recreation departments, is the director of and occasional performer with Offshoot Productions' Gallery Players improv troupe. She has helmed nearly 80 productions in Louisiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan, Texas and Georgia. A produced playwright and author of works on theatrical practice and literature, she holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from Louisiana State University and an M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University. Her book, Dramatic Re-Visions, received outstanding reviews. Paige Steadman, Offshoot's composer and musical director, is also a member of the Gallery Players. Bringing to performances and teaching her experience in college theatre, the Georgia Renaissance Festival and elsewhere, she has appeared in shows ranging from Shakespeare to children=s participation plays. She has also co-written two murder mysteries with Susan Steadman and penned the 2006 children=s show, The Frog Prince.
