Fayette NAACP Holds 11th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance

“One Nation, One Dream: Justice for All" 1/2/11 Themed, “One Nation, One Dream: Justice for All” the Fayette County Branch of the NAACP in partnership with the Fayette County Board of Education will present the 7th annual parade and subsequent 11th annual commemorative program in celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Holiday. Rev. Toney Mosley, Sr. Pastor, Woods Memorial Baptist Church, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal. The branch invites the community; churches, fraternities, sororities, organizations and businesses to participate in the parade. Parade participants can secure a Parade Entry Form or register online by accessing the Branch’s website, www.fcnaacp.org. At a nominal cost, pre-parade breakfast will be served from 9:00 a.m.-10 a.m. in the Lafayette Center Cafeteria. The parade will start from Fayette County High School Parking Lot at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17. A program which will include two dynamics actors as the featured speakers will be presented at the F. A. Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville. The outstanding thespians include Mr. Lamaio Bradwell, who will portray Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mr. Masud Olufani who will portray Malcolm X. They will perform excerpts from a drama entitled “The Meeting.” The meeting depicts a thought provoking conversation between Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X. It is inspiring for all ages and honors the two Civil Rights icons. The Meeting displays two men with opposing philosophical beliefs coming together and solving their differences in a nonviolent manner, of which Dr. King gave his life. Mr. Lamario G. Bradwell
who will portray Dr. King, brings a versatile quality to theatre
and screen that is soul-stirring, inspirational and powerful.
The former R&B recording artist now actor, clergy, Gospel music
catalyst and entrepreneur has graced the theatrical stage as the
leading male for the hilarious, dramatic stage play “Hell Is Not
A Game Show”. He’s also appeared in the television hit TBS
sitcom Tyler Perry’s “House of Pain” and the stage play “A Trip
to God’s House”. Mr. Masud Olufani who will portray
Malcolm X is an actor, public speaker, singer, visual artist and
writer who has been involved in the performing arts since age
six. He has appeared in productions of A Raisin In the Sun,
Intersections (which he co-wrote), and The Princess and the
Frog. He is currently represented by the People Store in
Atlanta, GA. In addition the artist is pursuing a graduate
degree in Fine Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. All third graders and middle school students in the Fayette County School System are invited to be the NAACP’s special guests and the NAACP will recognize particular high school seniors who have achieved academic success from each of their five respective county high schools. The NAACP will also recognize those athletic teams that have accomplished major feats and Essay winners from Elementary and Middle Schools. |
