Georgia DOT Posts Signage to The Rock Ranch

2/17/10 It just got easier for first-time visitors to get to The Rock Ranch. That's because The Rock Ranch recently became the first agritourism destination in the state to receive directional signage from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Currently, there are four - three as visitors travel into Barnesville and another west on Barnesville Highway at the Upson County line. But, if Jeff Manley, general manager for The Rock Ranch, has his way, there will be more. “The state of Georgia Department of Transportation has been very kind,” Manley said. “That’s because the state is really recognizing the impact that agritourism is having in the state. It’s the combination of tourism and agriculture, the two largest industries in the state, coming together. So, it’s making an impact and they want to support it. A great way to do that is with directional signage.” Visitors travel to The Rock Ranch from Phenix City, Ala., Warner Robins, Macon, Atlanta, all directions, so the new signage is a welcome addition to the area’s highways. “I hope people will be able to find us easier,” Manley said. “We’re not on the main drag. You don’t just drop by here. You have to have a plan. As people get closer and closer, there’s a lot to look at in Barnesville and Thomaston, and we need these directional signs and more to let them know, ‘Hey, you’re close.’ That’s because these are country miles. You can say it’s nine miles, but many times it seems like 15.” The Rock Ranch is 1250-acre ranch owned by Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy. It is located at 5020 Barnesville Highway, The Rock, Ga. That’s just one hour south of Atlanta, one hour northeast of Columbus, and 35 minutes northwest of Macon. |
