Bert Loftman, Candidate U.S. Congress District 9 (R)
About BertI moved to Pickens County in 1999 with Bunny, my wife of forty-six years. We have three children and five grandchildren. I retired from my neurosurgery medical practice in 2005. I continue to serve my community as a medical volunteer, as a volunteer to improve the environment, and as a major supporter of the arts and my church. I was born on January 6 in Cleveland, Ohio. At age 10, my family moved to Newark, Delaware. I finished high school in Newark and then received most of my education in Indiana. In 1968, I finished my medical internship at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. This hospital is similar to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. From there I went into the US Army where I served in Viet Nam. Then I went back to Indiana for my neurosurgery residency. In 1974 my wife and family moved to Atlanta and I practiced at Piedmont Hospital for twenty years. About ten years ago I moved to Pickens County and practiced at Piedmont Mountainside hospital. Since I read Atlas Shrugged in high school, I have been interested in the politics of less government and lower taxes. I voted for Ronald Reagan and wish I could again. I voted for Bush senior in 1988, but questioned the Republican Party after he lied when he said “Read my lips, no new taxes.” In the 1990’s, I concluded that the only meaningful health care reform was to end the income tax. I went with Congressman Tom Price to the AMA meetings in Chicago to push this view. I wrote a fair amount of letters to the editor concerning freedom issues and in 1998 the Libertarians asked me to run for the US Senate. I accepted and my main issue was the FairTax. Ten years later, I am still pushing for the FairTax but there is a lot more support for it now. I am proud to have been a part of this increased support. My campaign is about issues that will create a healthy America. I not only believe in family values. I live them. The picture below is from my family reunion in Indiana this Thanksgiving. Every family member attended coming from as far as California and Florida. My sister and brother and I are sitting with our spouses behind us. All the people about us are our children, grandchildren and what we fondly call the outlaws. We had a wonderful time. I am not a career politician. I am running because I believe that to make America healthy, we must eliminate the foundations of Liberalism: the income tax and the Federal Reserve Bank. Once done, Americans will begin to elect politicians who honor the Constitution. Thank you, Bert Loftman, MD |

Loftman Statement re: Nathan Deal Resignation3/1/10 Nathan Deal is leaving his Congressional office in order to run for the Governor and this will greatly effect the current Congressional race. There will be a special election probably sometime in April. I have a number of reactions:
Bert Loftman, Candidate US Congress (GA-9) Signs "Repeal It Pledge"1/20/10 Bert Loftman signed the Club for Growth, “repeal it pledge:” “I, Bert Loftman, hereby pledge to the people of my District 9 of GA upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives, to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.” ...
