About Tom
Congressman Tom Price is recognized as a vibrant Leader
in Georgia and a thoughtful problem solver.
CHALLENGING LEADERSHIP:
While in Congress, Price has worked on bold solutions in the
areas of energy, tax and health care policy. This August,
Congressman Price challenged Washington's failed leadership by
leading the protest for true energy reform. While the leadership
turned off the lights and microphones so they could go on a
five-week vacation, Price and his Republican colleagues spoke to
the American people on the House floor. He stayed and advocated
for an "all-of-the-above" energy plan that includes
conservation, more American-made energy and alternative sources
of clean energy not just hollow rhetoric.
REAL SOLUTIONS:
Sticking with bold solutions, Price has championed the FairTax.
Americans spend millions of hours and billions of dollars each
year trying to comply with a tax code we all know is broken. The
FairTax would replace our current patchwork of income, payroll
and death taxes eliminating the need for the IRS entirely with a
single tax on consumption. This would lower taxes and greatly
simplify the tax code by putting more money back in your pocket
and producing an unprecedented economic boom.
BIPARTISANSHIP:
In the area of health care, Congressman Price has reached across
the aisle to find real solutions. Working with Democrat Tammy
Baldwin, they introduced the "Health Partnership Act," which
would allow states to use federal grants in a variety of
innovative ways to help provide health insurance for its
citizens. Recognizing that it is more important to put people
before politics, Price has worked hard to pass patient-centered
health care legislation so patients, in consultation with
doctors, are able to make decisions about their own health care.
MEDICAL PRACTICE:
Congressman Price received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the
University of Michigan and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery
residency at Emory University.
He established an orthopaedic clinic just north of Atlanta.
During the high school football season, it was not uncommon to
see Dr. Price at the local games serving his community as a
volunteer doctor. When a player got hurt, Dr. Price was there to
help guide the family through the process of recovery.
After nearly twenty years of private practice he returned to
Emory University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor.
Before coming to Congress, Dr. Price was Medical Director of the
Orthopaedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta,
teaching resident doctors in training.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
Price is active in the Atlanta community, is a past President of
the Roswell Rotary Club and has served on Boards of the North
Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Orchestra Atlanta, the Arthritis
Foundation, and the North Metro YMCA. Congressman Price with his
wife, Elizabeth, and family reside in Roswell. They are members
of the Georgia Ensemble Theater, Roswell Clean and Beautiful,
and the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
