Visit www.PoliticalPotluck.com for more from Congressman Lynn Westmoreland

About Lynn

U.S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland began serving in Congress in January of 2005 after 12 years of legislative service in the Georgia state House of Representatives. Due to redistricting, Lynn's district number is changing from the Eighth District to the Third District.

In the 109th Congress, Lynn serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Small Business Committee, and the Government Reform Committee.

Lynn's service on the Transportation Committee enables him to focus on the many transportation needs of the Third District. He also serves on the Aviation Subcommittee, which oversees all operations of the Federal Aviation Administration and airports across the country. Lynn also serves as the vice-chair of the Railroad Subcommittee, which oversees federal issues related to railroads in the nation.

The Small Business Committee depends on Lynn's experience as a small business owner as it works on overseeing all programs from the Small Business Administration and assisting in encouraging business growth and development across the country.

Lynn's focus as a fiscal conservative is valuable to the Government Reform Committee, as he works with other members to uncover government waste, fraud, and abuse. This year, Government Reform has, with Lynn's assistance, recommended the creation of task forces to eliminate government programs.

Prior to his service in Congress, Lynn served as the Republican Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives for three years, and took the leadership role in fighting proposed increases in taxes. Lynn also played a significant role preparing the Republican caucus to take the majority.

Lynn and his wife of 36 years, Joan, live in Grantville, in Coweta County. Prior to moving to Coweta County, Lynn and Joan lived in Fayette County for over 25 years, where Lynn worked as a builder, working in all aspects of the construction trade, including land development.

Lynn and Joan have three children and five grandchildren. They attend Southcrest Church

Westmoreland: The 'Jobs Bill' that Won't Create Jobs

"The Democratic Congress can continue to pass spending measures and slap the label 'jobs bill' on them, but that's not going to create new, long-term employment for Americans looking desperately for work," Westmoreland said. "Tomorrow, the government will release data that we lost about 100,000 more jobs in February. That's the 'success' that the Democrats' agenda has brought us thus far. This $15 billion pales in comparison... More

Westmoreland Condemns Cover-up on Pelosi Charges

5/21/09 U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland today condemned House Democrats’ attempt to sweep Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s allegations against the CIA under the rug.

“Speaker Pelosi has made serious charges against the CIA, saying point blank that the agency misled her and other members of Congress,” Westmoreland said. “I think she needs to produce evidence to support her claims or she needs to apologize to the agents at the CIA charged with collecting information vital to safeguarding our nation.”... Westmoreland: No Celebrating on Stimulus Birthday

One year ago today, President Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus bill into law with great hype and big promises, but the facts show that after 365 days, we have more debt, lots of wasteful spending, funding for a liberal wish list but no new jobs. In fact, the cost has risen $75 billion... More

1/20/10 On Jan. 20, 2009, President Obama took the oath of office as our 44th president amid unparalleled excitement about his promises for change. On Jan. 20, 2010, Americans are saying, “Keep the change.” What a difference a year makes, said U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland today... More

Opponents of Government Takeover Will Have Voices Heard

10/29/09 Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats unveiled their final 2,000-page health care plan (HR 3962) after weeks of Democrat-only, closed-door negotiations.

“Apparently, because this is health care legislation, the House Democrats thought doctor-patient confidentiality rules should apply to their secret negotiations,” U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland said. “The voices of those opposed... More

World’s Bad Boys Swoon For Obama While Our Friends Get Cold Shoulder

10/2/09 There aren't many calls to my office from Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District praising the policies of President Obama.

But Obama need not fear.

As Obama was moving into the White House, his charm, his message of change and his Teleprompter-reading skills, pushed his approval rating to near 70 percent and his disapproval rate a mere 20 percent. Today, that margin has narrowed drastically to 50.4 percent approve and 44.3 percent... More

Obama’s budget a bill we can’t repay

By Lynn Westmoreland
4/4/09 (Blog) A few years back, Republicans controlled all branches of government and Democrats howled about the GOP’s budget gimmicks and spendthrift ways. I admit there was some truth to their charges. I fought my fellow Republicans at the time to cut spending and shrink the size of government just like we’d promised our constituents we would do... More
